Whilst undisturbed, solid ACMs pose little risk. However, exposure to airborne asbestos fibre kills 4,500 people per year in the UK. Therefore, it is extremely important to carry out an asbestos survey if you think you need one.
Now, it is illegal to use asbestos in construction. However, you can still find asbestos in properties built or refurbished before 2000. The UK Government Health and Safety Executive’s (HSE) official advice is that you should carry out asbestos surveying in your building if it was built before 2000.
